Last Saturday, I went to my school to attend the meeting about 'English Only Class'.
As you already know, it's the big project on a budget of 50,000,000 won.
We'll spend most money on buying multimedia equipments and software such as '뿌리영어'.
The construction is supposed to be finished in Feburary.
Anyway, I'll be in charge of that classroom next year.
My school is located in a rural place, and most students are really poor at English.
So, I really want them to enjoy Eglish in that classroom during lunch break or their free time.
My plan is to give them a sticker or stamp whenever they visit the classroom and let them
1. play board game in English
2. practice listening using the computer
3. read English books
So, do you have any other ideas?

1. Decorating the wall with inspirational posters like in the IETTP won't hurt.
2. Make soome time for English movies or cartoons. Maybe every other two weeks. Students can jot dowm the expressions that they heard while watching the shows.
I know much about rural students because I'v been working only at that area for about seven years. At first they have interests in that classroom, but as time goes by, they won't do so.
How about giving them assignment in group like a project study?
I don't know about that.Let me know the way that I can do well after learning
Hi, Iris, It sounds great! You can do that wonderfully, I think. Like Walter's class, let student make cards of their friends in English.
And like Gruwell, let them write their own story. Is it too difficult? If I come up with good ideas I'll tell you later. Have a nice weekend!
Hi. My name's Jeff and I'm a former conversation instructor at KNUE. I was looking around here because I want to use a blog next semester in my classes.
Re: your English-only classroom.
Lots of students will visit in the beginning because it will be new. But will they ever come back?
To get students to visit often I think you need to concentrate on two things:
1. Make it a sanctuary. Students often feel stressed and would love to have someplace to feel safe away from their classmates, teachers, etc. If they feel stress-free and relaxed, they will come.
2. Have new (and interesting) things. Try to have something new each week. If it's the same stuff over and over, they will get bored. New movies, new games, new activities, etc.
Good luck!
